The concept of the Songs of Reformation came to being after a study of the book of Ezra – Nehemiah. The nation of Israel was returning home after years in exile and there were two different forms of rebuilding happening.
The first was a Spiritual rebuilding, which happened through Ezra, and the second was physical (...morale) through Nehemiah. The people of Israel had to re-establish the true worship of Elohim (God), which meant a complete surrender and going back to the scriptures. Ezra taught the people to ensure that this happened. When Nehemiah comes, he finds the people having already rebuilt the temple, the only thing that was left was to rebuild the walls. So Nehemiah leads the people in building those walls and regaining their morale as God’s chosen people.
At one point during this period, Ezra stood on a platform and read from Moses’ writings. The people wept as they heard the words and the Levites had to calm them down. They then proceeded to celebrate the feast of the shelters. Something that hadn’t been done since the time of Joshua!
This is the main drive of the Songs of Reformation project. The church is at a point where it needs to go back to the scriptures and re examine them – and then do what it says. The world needs to see the Messiah through the Church and only a Reformed Church can do this. A Reformed Church that has gone back to the basics of Salvation, Atonement and Forgiveness, as taught in Scripture. This is what the Song’s of Reformation is all about - a collection of songs calling out for the Reformation of the Church.
